Solectrix presents the new, compact 3D digital microscopy platform sinaSCOPE

With sinaSCOPE, optical, eyepiece-based stereo microscopes can be transformed into a digital microscope with two 4K cameras and a 3D monitor. The optical properties of the microscope remain unchanged.

Digitalization provides an unlimited working and viewing area and allows ergonomic working as the head remains freely movable. Fatigue-free working over a longer period of time is possible, preventing a lack of concentration. The image data of the microscope is available for digital processing.

A sinaSCOPE system consists of the following elements:

Imaging

The Solectrix camera heads are equipped with a highly sensitive 11-mm Sony sensor and deliver up to 30 frames per second in crisp 4K UHD resolution. They are each connected via a single coaxial cable to a processing unit with an FPGA-based video grabber assembly. All three available sinaSCOPE models are designed as digital upgrades for optical microscopes. The "Basic" model is suitable for connection to 3D monitors without glasses, while the "Professional" model can also be used to control displays with 3D glasses. The 3D image can thus also be viewed by several users at the same time.

Software for image processing

The high image quality of the flexible Solectrix Image Pipeline combined with low latency is decisive here. The "real 3D" concept ensures the synchronous acquisition of the 3D image data and the processing of the 3D image data within a single FPGA guarantees uniform image properties. The "Professional" and "Compact" versions also use a software component for automatic image analysis and rectification.

Screens / Monitors

The "Compact" product line includes an autostereoscopic 15.6" 3D monitor which, together with the processing unit and an eye tracker, forms a comprehensive upgrade package for stereo microscopes. The compact system allows the image to be displayed on the integrated 3D monitor without the need for glasses.

New video capture/replay system SX proFRAME 3.0 in CompactPCI Serial and PCIe format (PC)

Imaging

Modern medicine needs powerful systems for the acquisition and reproduction of video and measurement data. SX proFRAME, the video capture and replay system from Solectrix, offers a modular solution for demanding, image-based applications from the automotive sector to medical technology.

The recently completed third SX proFRAME generation ­– the SX proFRAME Base Board 3.0 – achieves a maximum data rate up to four times higher than its successful predecessor SX proFRAME 2.0 and is also available for the first time in the industrial format CompactPCI Serial.

Depending on the application, up to eight 4K camera image data streams can be recorded or played back with the new version SX proFRAME 3.0, or four image data streams can be forwarded to an ECU during recording.

Users in the medical field benefit from the long-term availability required for such an industrial product. Various video interface adapters for FPD-Link III and GMSL2 are already available today, adapters for future camera generations based on GMSL3 and FPD-Link-IV are also in preparation. For fluorescence analysis, Solectrix also offers a monochrome 20-megapixel camera (SXC3).

The integration of customer-specific interfaces and functions is easy. One reason for this is that the hardware, software and FPGA IP cores used in the SX proFRAME system are all Solectrix proprietary developments. This avoids dependence on third-party components.

Software for image processing

For the processing of video data in real time, the user has access to a specially developed high-performance image sensor pipeline (ISP) in software or directly on the FPGA, building on the extensive Solectrix know-how in the field of digital image processing.

A comprehensive and documented SW library with an API for controlling the SX proFRAME from a host system (Windows 10 or Linux) completes the offer. Competent and fast support by Solectrix experts enables customers to integrate the SX proFRAME 3.0 into their specific environment, such as validation systems, development platforms for diagnostic systems or surround and stereo camera systems, quickly and purposefully.

Easy entry into the development of mobile health devices: The SX Mobile Device Kit – ready —go!

As a platform for the entry into the development of a mobile ARM-based embedded system, Solectrix presents its "SX Mobile Device Kit" (MDK). The MDK offers a completely reworked device design that includes not only hardware and software but also a flexible casing concept.

The heart of this versatile system is an NXP i.MX 8M Mini CPU. Selected peripherals for all the functionality expected of a portable device are also included. Thus, the MDK is prepared for wireless communication via Wi-Fi as well as BLE or the satellite-based positioning based on GPS / GLONASS. In addition to battery operation, charging via USB and wireless charging is planned. With the option of providing USB host and Ethernet interfaces, the MDK can also be used as a single-board computer (SBC).

The MDK is specifically designed for use in mobile image processing applications. For this, the platform offers a flexible expansion interface for connection of various image sensors, enabling the use of the appropriate sensor for a dedicated customer application.

All components of the MDK are robust and therefore suitable for use in demanding environments. They are also available long-term. Customer-specific adaptations of the hardware and software as well as of the MDK device design are offered by Solectrix as a service and are thus exactly tailored to the customer's requirements.

For the self-developed design, Board Support Packages based on Linux and Android are available. That way the customer can jump right into the development of his application.

To a 10th of a degree with pinpoint accuracy: Infrared LED-heated measuring chamber for moving, fluid samples by Solectrix

Intelligent temperature control without an expensive Peltier element and contactless measuring with data readout via RF – these are the strengths of the LED-heated measuring chamber for moving, fluid samples developed by Solectrix.
Regulation of the fluid’s temperature is realized via individually controlled infrared LEDs, which enables a far more consistent temperature level within the sample than with conventional heating systems. The result is a temperature accuracy of ±0.35 °C at 7500 rpm.
The LEDs, arranged radially in the direction of movement, replace the previously frequently used heating elements like Peltier elements or heating cartridges. Thus, the control of the temperature within the chamber can be accelerated enormously. All the electronics and sensors are located underneath the sample carrier and does not require an independent power supply. One of many possible applications for the measuring chamber is the temperature control and analysis of blood serum.
